Quick, Let's Get Married! (BLU-RAY + DVD)

Quick, Let's Get Married is an offbeat romantic caper starring Ginger Rogers and Ray Milland, with Barbara Eden and a young Elliott Gould among its colorful ensemble cast. Set in a small Italian town, the story begins when thief Mario Forni (Milland) arrives posing as a house painter while secretly searching for treasure hidden beneath a statue in an old church. His plans become complicated by his attraction to Madame Rinaldi (Rogers), the proprietor of the local brothel, and by an impulsive act that unexpectedly turns him into the architect of a supposed religious miracle. When Pia (Eden), one of Rinaldi's women, confides near the statue that she is pregnant, Mario secretly answers her while pretending to be St. Joseph and leaves her several gold coins. Pia becomes convinced that she has witnessed a miracle, and word rapidly spreads through the town. What began as Mario's deception grows into a public sensation involving suspicious civic leaders, a banker and a visiting bishop. Even after the bishop discovers what has really happened, he recognizes that the supposed miracle has restored a genuine sense of hope to the community. The production has an unusual history of its own. Filmed in Italy in the early 1960s, the picture was originally associated with director William Dieterle and went through a troubled production and post-production history before eventually being completed under Victor Stoloff and released years later. The result is an eccentric combination of romantic comedy, treasure hunt, religious satire and European-flavored caper. Supporting players include Carl Schell, Michael Ansara, Walter Abel, David Hurst, Leonardo Cimino, Pippa Scott and Cecil Kellaway, while Gould appears in one of his earliest feature-film roles. VCI Entertainment presents Quick, Let's Get Married in its first Blu-ray edition, produced from a new 4K scan of the 35mm negative and paired with the film on DVD. Supplements include an audio commentary by film historian, podcaster and artist Rob Kelly, plus a poster and photo gallery highlighting the film and television careers of Ginger Rogers, Ray Milland, Barbara Eden and Elliott Gould.
